Unique Student Identifier (USI)
A USI is a free lifelong education number used for nationally recognised training in Australia. Students need a USI before a Registered Training Organisation can issue certain training outcomes.
Why students need a USI
The USI connects a student’s nationally recognised training records. If you are enrolling in vocational education and training, you should have a USI ready before enrolment is finalised.
- You only need to create a USI once
- The USI is used across nationally recognised training
- Your legal name should match your USI and enrolment records
- You may need identification or Digital ID to create one
Before you create your USI
- Use the official Australian Government USI website
- Use a personal email address rather than a shared, work or school account where possible
- Check that your name matches your identification and enrolment records
- Keep your USI login details secure
If you already have a USI
Do not create a second USI. Use the official USI website to find or access your existing USI if you cannot remember it.
How this relates to Automation Skills
Automation Skills will ask for USI information as part of the enrolment process for nationally recognised training. Do not send your USI through the general contact form unless you are specifically asked to provide it through a secure enrolment process.
If you are not sure whether you have a USI, create or find it through the official USI website before enrolment.
